A full rota and a finished training plan don't prove your team is ready. The first busy Saturday does. Use these seven questions to find the gaps before your guests do.
Why it matters
Every new season exposes the gaps quiet months hide
When the team doubles for the season, small misunderstandings stop being small. A procedure gets read two ways on the floor, or a supervisor assumes training is done because it was on the calendar.
Events, extended weekends and shorter closed periods also leave less time to onboard people and fewer windows for maintenance.
The seven questions
Before the gates open
Go through them with your department leads and tick each one you can answer yes to.
-
01
Are roles and responsibilities clear?
Everyone should know where their job ends, who makes which decisions and when to escalate. That matters most when seasonal and permanent staff share a shift.
-
02
Has training been understood, or just attended?
Attendance isn't the same as competence. Check it on the job, with a practical assessment or a supervisor sign-off.
The real testCan this person do the task correctly and consistently on a real shift?
“Operations teams have often been more structured at training because they need to recruit, induct and train quickly.”

03
Are your procedures current and easy to reach?
Procedures drift between seasons. Remove old versions, keep the current ones within reach on every shift, and make sure staff have seen what changed.
-
04
Can managers see who's ready?
If readiness lives in spreadsheets and people's memory, nobody really knows. On any given morning, a manager should be able to say who's trained, who's approved for which role, which qualifications expire soon and whether today's checks are done. If one of those takes a while to answer, start there.
“The value comes when information is visible to the people already responsible for making decisions.”

05
Do employees know how to report and escalate?
Every team member should know what to report, who gets it, whether operations can continue and who owns the next step.
-
06
Are routines consistent across teams and shifts?
When one team documents every deviation and another documents none, you can't verify the work, spot patterns, train new staff or investigate an incident properly.
-
07
Have you tested readiness under realistic pressure?
Training happens in calm conditions. Busy days don't. Walk your team through a few scenarios, like a ride that won't open, a missed check or a trained operator calling in sick.
“There's no such thing as summer and winter anymore. Seasonal parks have to deploy smarter maintenance.”
